Citizen Science

What is Citizen Science?

Citizen science offers a unique opportunity for professional scientists to partner with volunteers to collaborate on research.  Scientists benefit from increased data collection and greater understanding and support for their research by the public, and the volunteers get a chance to engage directly in scientific research and enjoy rich, educational, and meaningful natural history experiences.

For these combined benefits, citizen science helps TINS achieve several elements of its mission in one stroke. Whether coordinating local efforts from larger national or global citizen science campaigns, or initiating our own local and regional projects, we offer many ways for the public to get involved.

Don't see what you're looking for?

We strongly encourage participation in our established programs, but we are always interested in new ideas for additional projects in the future. Ideally, citizen science projects are long-term, but we are open to ideas for any new projects, provided there is sufficient interest and scientific justification. We also have many ideas for new projects ourselves.
