Keeping Pace with the Changes: Fund an Updated Tahoe Bird Checklist
YOU can help fund a brand-new Lake Tahoe seasonal bird checklist!
This isn’t just any list. It includes every bird species ever documented in the Lake Tahoe basin, when to spot them, their breeding status at Tahoe, and how common or rare they are. From soaring eagles to secretive songbirds, this guide is a go-to for birders, nature lovers, scientists, and conservationists alike, and the 2016 first edition has become the definitive resource for bird occurrence in the Lake Tahoe region. Since its initial publication, we have added a number of new species to Tahoe’s official list, the taxonomy and scientific names of many species has changed, and dozens of common names will soon be changing; it is time for update with a second edition.
The Tahoe Basin is a bird lover’s paradise—spanning two states, six counties, and countless stunning habitats from lake shores to mountain peaks. With an elevation gradient spanning from 6,223 to 10,886 feet, this region is home to an incredible variety of birds that rely on its forests, meadows, wetlands, lakes, and alpine ridges. This checklist will update the names, taxonomy, breeding status, and seasonal occurrence of those 320 species.
By supporting this project, you’re helping connect people to Tahoe’s wild beauty and giving an important update to this powerful tool for bird research and conservation.
