Every Bird Counts: Support the Christmas Bird Count

$750.00

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is the world’s largest and longest-running citizen science project. Every year between December 14 and January 5, tens of thousands of volunteers bundle up and head outdoors to count birds—and contribute to a global database that’s been growing since 1900.

Here in Tahoe, our count has been running since 1975, with TINS Co-founder Will Richardson coordinating it since 2004. The count covers a 7.5-mile radius centered on the mouth of the Upper Truckee River. On count day, participants gather in the morning, then spread out to tally every feathered friend they can find. At day’s end, everyone reconvenes to swap stories and total up the sightings.

✨ Now, you can help keep this tradition flying—by sponsoring the Tahoe CBC!

Your sponsorship will support local coordination, data collection, community engagement, and outreach to new participants. You'll be helping build the next generation of birders and conservationists while contributing to a century-long global effort to track bird populations. Sponsor the South Lake Tahoe Christmas Bird Count today—and help science take flight!
