TINS started investigations with tiger beetles (Cicindelinae) in 2011, with the help of Tahoe-Baikal Institute alumnus intern, Dr. Igor Moroldoev. We have no current tiger beetle research projects at the moment, but we are collecting location and phenology data and specimens for a number of species and have many ideas for future directions of research, many of which might be suitable for an eager citizen scientist.

The California Beetle Project is an effort by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History to compile a comprehensive, queryable distributional database for the 10,000+ beetle species that can be found in California.  Unfortunately the lead of that project, Dr. Michael Caterino, left SBMNH in 2014, and it is uncertain if the project will resume under new leadership.
